We would like to take a moment to introduce you to our new Kids’ Ministry Director, Shelagh Raymer. Shelagh is no stranger to MBC, she will continue to serve as our Director of Women of Grace Retreats and the summer Women of Grace Café.
Her outstanding ability to connect and coach young people who will be in the frontlines of leading our high impact Kids’ Ministry will ensure that your children are well cared for in a safe and compelling environment. Shelagh can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
In these next few paragraphs, Shelagh shares a little bit about who she is and how God has prepared her for this role. May you uphold Shelagh and her family in your prayers as she enters this phase of ministry leadership.
Outlined, underlined and earmarked in my bible is this verse:
“How can a young man or woman keep his or her way pure? By keeping it according to Thy word. With all my heart I have sought Thee; Do not let me wander from Thy commandments” Psalm 119:9&10
I have marked this verse for two reasons, one because it is my own prayer and two because it is my prayer for my children. It is a daily reminder that I have a responsibility to help myself and my children seek the Lord and not to wander from His commands. Being a part of the MBC community for the last 16 years has helped our family grow in our spiritual walk and understanding of these commands.
Our connection to MBC began as an invitation from friends to camp overnight. We returned for vacation the next couple of years as campers and fell in love with the community and the opportunity this holiday oasis provided for our family. It had a family friendly beach, a children’s program and solid Bible teaching for my husband and me.
A number of years ago God provided us the opportunity to purchase a trailer at MBC, a spiritual investment for our family. Our children never had to be ‘sent’ to the Kids program, they ran or rode their bikes collecting their friends along the way. They had amazing leaders who taught them about Jesus and they dreamed of one day being just like those leaders. Our youngest child accepted Christ into her life as a result of the lesson she heard that night at program. The spiritual investment was paying off.
As a Momma I have watched our three be a part of the program and serve in KIDS Ministry. Their dreams of becoming ‘those leaders’ have come true: our spiritual investment bears fruit. As I observed I was reminded that it does take a village to raise a child. I know this to be true because I have benefitted from being a part of this unique village we call MBC. As the director of Kids Ministry I am excited to be a part of the lives of the children who will walk thru the doors each day. I believe it is my responsibility to support parents by helping their children realize Gods commandments and to seek after them so they will not wander from them. I want for parents what I had when my three were younger and attended the Kids Ministry, the desire to be there every opportunity they could and to soak in God’s word, to build relationships with leaders and friends that will last for eternity.
